With its museums, monuments, concert halls, sports facilities, parks and gardens, and vast array of shops, Lille is full of things to do and places to discover. On a shopping trip or a cultural outing, be sure to take in the city's rich architectural heritage. In the Vieux Lille neighbourhood, by the hotel, take time to admire the town houses with their ornate façades, explore the little winding back streets, and pop into one of the many cafés and restaurants. Admire the architectural harmony of the Grand Place, which is not only a big draw for tourists, but locals too.
On the Grand Place square, discover one of the city's most stunning monuments: the Vieille Bourse (the old exchange). It was built between 1652 and 1653 and is made up of 24 identical houses with beautifully sculpted façades. Inside, a superb cloister surrounds a courtyard which plays host to second-hand book sellers and, in summer, tango dancers. And don’t miss Rihour Palace, a rare vestige of the city's extravagant gothic architecture, and the Hotel de Ville, or city hall, with its famous belfry. Listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, this traditional Flemish belfry rises 104 m into the sky and offers panoramic views over this beautiful northern city. On one of the two pillars, you'll find sculptures of the two giants said to have founded the city: Lydéric and Phinaert.
Make the most of your days to admire the heritage of Lille. In the evenings, head to a cinema or a concert hall... there's something for everyone!
